Huffington Post recently covered the topic of how CBD might be able to enhance your sex life by highlighting the success of a woman who changed her sex life using nature’s relief.
Susan used alcohol as a way to relax and release her inhibitions. This had drawbacks, but she figured it was working ― and it did work for years.
Until she found cannabidiol, or CBD, the non-high inducing ingredient in hemp and marijuana plants that’s skyrocketed in popularity for its health benefits recently.
“I actually only started trying CBD [for sex] in my 40s, and it was a revelation for me,” explained Susan, who asked Huffington Post to withhold her last name as using cannabis-related products would be viewed poorly in her workplace. “I could relax, get a bit giggly, and it definitely puts me in a happy place.”
Susan stated she noticed her senses felt heightened after using CBD, because of this and her relaxed state Susan says her orgasms became more intense. She loved that she no longer had to put up with nasty hangovers, fuzzy memories, and a dry vagina. Then, she was having a great night of sleep after.
Susan isn’t alone, others are experimenting with CBD in the bedroom, but it’s a tiny percent. A recent survey from Remedy Review, a website that conducts research and information related to hemp CBD, revealed 94 percent of people have never tried CBD for sexual purposes.
However, those who did have brought it into their routines had only positive things to say. In fact, 64 percent of those surveyed used CBD in their bedroom reported improved their sexual experiences.
CBD is available in full-spectrum oils, tasty edibles, and potent vapes. There simply isn’t enough research to support any definitive conclusions on how CBD enhances sex.
A lot of what is said is purely anecdotal. We need more CBD user studies and more data in order to completely understand the greatness which is CBD.
If you’re looking to try using CBD in the bedroom this is what you need to know.
CBD helps with anxiety. If you’re a bit insecure about how your body looks or your body’s smell. You’re not communicating. Maybe you’re putting too much pressure on yourself to experience an orgasm out the gate. This often happens with females, which can create a frustrating divide if not communicated and resolved. Maybe you’re worried about your performance and pleasing your partner, which is a common experience with men, especially in new relationships.
If you’ve felt any of this, you’re not alone ― millions of people experience some form of performance anxiety in the bedroom. Unsurprisingly, this can put a halt to your sex drive with a quickness.
CBD comes in by aiding to slow down those mood-killing thoughts, according to Dr. Felice Gersh, a board-certified obstetrician, and gynecologist based in Irvine, California.
“CBD oil can reduce sexual and negative self-images relating to one’s appearance or sexual appeal,” Gersh explained. “Feeling less self-conscious about your body or your performance can help you to relax and enjoy the whole experience.”
CBD works directly with the body’s endocannabinoid system or EC ― a network of your body’s receptors which aid to regulate the nervous system, immune system, and your body’s organs.
According to Gersh, these receptors, when activated by your body’s endocannabinoids, these can induce an anti-anxiety effect on the brain.
“CBD bonds to the receptors of this system as if it was our homemade, or endogenous, endocannabinoids,” Gersh said, adding that this process can help relieve anxiety that may pop up when you’re about to get busy.
Recent studies have revealedCBD can help with anxiety overall.
Hemp CBD does not just have mental benefits of CBD. There’s another series of receptors in your EC which aids to help reduce pain, Gersh said. This makes CBD a great option for those who experience any sort of chronic or acute pain such as muscle spasms, fibroids, endometriosis or pelvic floor pain.
“Topical, whole plant CBD balm can help women experiencing painful sexual intercourse due to vaginal dryness or to irritation at the vaginal opening to have more comfortable and enjoyable sexual experiences,” Gersh explained.
Men dealing with erectile dysfunction could also benefit from consistent use of powerful CBD. According to Evan Goldstein, an expert in sexual health and wellness and founder of a surgical practice for men in La and NYC.
“CBD increases blood flow and nerve sensation, which can help enhance sexual pleasure and intensify orgasms for all parties,” Goldstein said, he added he also advises his LGBTQ+ clients to experiment with CBD if they’re experiencing issues. Especially with communication.
It’s important to note there is no one-size-fits-all formula when it comes to using CBD for anything including using it for sex. CBD products will affect the body differently depending on the person’s gender, brain matter and body mass index. What works for one person might not work for another.
